After creating image sequences for Panoramax or similar services, you may wish to cover the area around the lower centre of the 360° images – known as the – in a suitable manner. This could be to obscure your own silhouette or to insert a logo or watermark there. If you look at various 360° images on relevant websites, you will find many different solutions.


If you want to take a series of photos for Panoramax, you need to think about how to move the camera and how to ensure that its position remains steady and stable throughout the shooting process.
Whether covering the nadir is sensible or even necessary is something everyone must decide for themselves. It is certainly worth considering, especially if you wish to make large quantities of images publicly available.


The most common forms of transport are probably walking, cycling and driving a car. All these modes of transport place relatively different demands on the equipment to which the camera is attached.
For home use, there are scripts such as the Nadir Patcher to effectively design and automate such image editing.  


The simplest method is to shoot whilst walking, with the camera mounted on a selfie stick and held in the hand in the traditional way.
Software such as the Nadir-Patcher is relatively easy to use and, once the required parameters have been determined, delivers good results.
 
If you’re doing longer shoots on foot or by bike, a backpack tripod is recommended. Simple selfie sticks, however, prove to be less than ideal in this situation.
 
There is a risk that the stick will collapse of its own accord, causing the camera height to decrease unnoticed.
 
Telescopic poles that feature a sturdy locking mechanism to secure the individual sections together are more suitable.
 
Here, screw locks have established themselves as the most reliable solution compared to other options, such as flip-lock quick-release fasteners or locks that secure the sections by twisting them against each other.
